GPSR and PrestaShop: the 2026 guide to getting compliant

Since 13 December 2024 the GPSR — Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety — is fully applicable. If you sell online in Europe it affects you too: marketplaces are already removing non-compliant listings and authorities can issue fines. Here's what you need and how to adapt PrestaShop without the headache.

Who the GPSR applies to

All non-food consumer products sold to EU consumers, new or used. It covers manufacturers, importers and distributors — so also those who resell other brands' products. If you sell into the EU from outside it, you need a Responsible Person established in the Union.

What your product page must show

  • Manufacturer details: name, brand, address and contact (email/web).
  • EU Responsible Person and their contact, if the manufacturer is outside the EU.
  • Product identification: type, batch/serial number, images.
  • Warnings and safety information in a language the consumer understands.
  • Procedures for incident reporting and recall/withdrawal.

How to adapt PrestaShop

Doing it by hand means editing the theme and every product page — slow and fragile. The clean way is a dedicated module that adds GPSR fields to products and manufacturers and shows them automatically on the page, with responsible person, warnings and traceability, without touching the theme.

This shop's GPSR Product Safety module does exactly that: GPSR fields per product and per brand, an info block on the page, compatible with PrestaShop 1.7, 8 and 9.

Rather not deal with it yourself?
